Title Capitalization Tool, Title Case, Sentence Case & More
Capitalize headlines the right way in AP, Chicago or APA style, or sentence case.
About this tool
Capitalize headlines according to the major style guides. All of them capitalize the first and last word, the first word after a colon, and nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. They differ on short words:
- AP lowercases articles, coordinating conjunctions and prepositions of three letters or fewer.
- Chicago lowercases articles, coordinating conjunctions and all prepositions, whatever their length.
- APA capitalizes every word of four letters or more and lowercases shorter minor words.
Acronyms such as SEO or NASA stay in capitals, and each part of a hyphenated word is handled too.
How to use
- 1. Type or paste your headline.
- 2. Choose a style. The result updates as you type.
- 3. Copy it. The character count helps you stay under 60 for SEO titles.
Frequently asked questions
AP vs Chicago: what's the difference?
AP lowercases only prepositions of three letters or fewer (so 'With' and 'About' are capitalized); Chicago lowercases all prepositions, so 'with' and 'about' stay lowercase.
Which should I use for blog titles?
Sentence case is increasingly common for blogs; AP or Chicago suit news and formal publishing. Pick one and use it consistently.
Does it keep acronyms?
Yes, words already written in capitals stay that way.
Is it free?
Yes.
