About VulnerabilityTools
A free website security scanner built for site owners, not security experts.
Why we built this
Most website hacks don't exploit exotic zero-days. They exploit known, fixable issues: an outdated plugin, a missing security header, an exposed backup file, a password left on its default. The tools that find these problems were built for penetration testers, full of jargon, priced for enterprises, and intimidating for everyone else.
Meanwhile, the people who most need to know their site is vulnerable, small business owners, bloggers, freelancers, agencies managing client sites, had no simple way to check. VulnerabilityTools exists to close that gap: paste a URL, get a clear report written in plain language, with every finding prioritized and every fix explained.
What makes it different
- Plain language first. Every section starts with "What this means." Findings are labeled Fix now, Fix soon or Worth fixing never a wall of CVE numbers with no context.
- Security and SEO together. Google demotes hacked and insecure sites, so a security report that ignores SEO, or vice versa, tells half the story. One scan covers vulnerabilities, malware, security headers, technical SEO, on-page SEO and speed.
- Honest about limits. Every section you select always gets a result: built-in checks back up the external engines, and if a source is unavailable the report says so instead of assuming your site is clean. And we're upfront that no automated scanner replaces a professional review for critical systems.
- Free, no signup. Security shouldn't require a sales call. Scanning is free within fair rate limits that keep the service fast for everyone.
How the scan works
The scanner examines your site from the outside, exactly what an attacker can see without logging in. It runs seven checks: template-based vulnerability testing (thousands of known checks for CVEs, misconfigurations and exposures), security header grading, TLS certificate validation, malware and blocklist reputation, technology fingerprinting, technical and on-page SEO, and page speed. An optional deep mode adds crawl-based probing for a more thorough pass. See the full walkthrough on the How it works page.
Our principles
- Only scan what you're allowed to scan. Every scan requires you to confirm you own the site or have written permission. We built the permission step into the product because unauthorized scanning can be illegal, and because it's the right thing to do.
- Read-only, always. The scanner sends harmless test requests and never modifies, deletes or damages anything on your site.
- Your data stays yours. We keep reports so share links keep working, log IPs briefly for rate limiting, use Google Analytics for aggregate usage measurement, and don't use advertising cookies or sell your information. Details in the Privacy Policy.
Try it on your own site. It takes about a minute, it's free, and you might be surprised what it finds.
